Kathmandu: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has advised residents to adopt precautionary measures against dengue fever as temperatures rise and the monsoon season approaches. The local government has highlighted the increased risk of dengue due to the expected proliferation of mosquito larvae with the onset of rainfall.

Sajina Maharjan, the acting chief of the KMC health department, noted that while no dengue cases have been reported in the city so far, the potential for an outbreak during the rainy season remains a concern. To mitigate this risk, regular cleaning efforts are being conducted at the ward level.

In preparation for possible outbreaks, the local government has ensured the availability of essential supplies such as cetamol and Jeevan Jal for dengue-affected individuals. These supplies will be distributed through health promotion centers at the ward level.

Teams of center employees, volunteers, and sanitation workers are actively identifying and cleaning areas with accumulated water, which serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Additionally, the local government has plans to conduct bio-larvicide spraying activities if necessary to combat the spread of dengue infection.

The KMC's advisory underscores the importance of community vigilance and proactive measures to prevent dengue, encouraging citizens to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
